About funfun.email
Hi.
Welcome.
What this is
The word chronicle comes from the Greek χρόνος (chrónos) — time. It’s a record of things noticed as time passes, distinct from a history, which is the same thing told in retrospect, with a thesis, with someone in charge of meaning. A chronicle is what you write while you’re still inside the weather.
That’s what this is. A some-weeks chronicle from MPJ.
Who I am, briefly
I made Fun Fun Function, a YouTube show about programming, for five years. Then I burned out for several more years. Now I am writing this. Mattias Petter Johansson. Mpj for short. Born 1983, first computer an Amiga 1200, silicon’s symbol Si tattooed on my left arm. I’ve worked at Spotify, Mindler, Parity, and a handful of others, but mostly what I’ve done with my life is write things to people about computers and try to be a decent hand at understanding what’s in front of me.
What you’ll actually get
Mostly computing — but in a slow way. Programming languages and math are how we speak to one another, and how we think clearly, both ourselves and together. That’s the lens.
Other things end up in here too — etymologies I get stuck on, William Playfair, the meditation tradition I sit in, Rocket Yoga, the meta-crisis, why it’s harder to make Bertin’s map projection than you’d think. The thread is attention, not topic.
When something is loud enough in my head that it has to come out, I write a chronicle. Sometimes that’s twice a month. Sometimes you’ll wonder if I’m dead.
Logistics
No paid tier. No ads. No sponsorships. No “premium tier coming soon.” I want to find out what it feels like to write with no commercial pressure on it at all, for as long as that’s possible.
Replies come straight to my inbox. I read everything. I answer many of them, eventually.
The ask
If it is your thing…
Bring your attention.
Your asserted frame of dignity is that you are rested.
Be a light, not a judge. Be a model, not a critic.
You are the ought.
And, as always — stay curious. 🧐🐒
